… 2018 PREMIER YEAR STRESSES IMPROMPTITUITY AND SELF RELIANCE
Come with friends or make new ones with the same weekend objective. Meet new people and share your visions of the yellow-brick-road triking adventure you have loosly sketched in your imaginations. Sit on the nearby fishing club’s deck on the banks of the Wabash, have something cold to drink and share tomorrow’s ride plans or the unique memories from your earlier day’s ride.
There are no SAG wagons or stations … no cookies, power bars or warm Gatorade. All the routes include at least one small town cafe or tavern. Some routes share the final few miles which is a great time and place to wind down, meet up with new riders and share riding experiences and to plan future rides.
Bring your own tire patch kits and trike tools. Helping a stranger fix their flat makes for an excellent foundation for starting a new friendship.
There are 24 well planned-not your typical routes that wind through the rolling partially wooded rural countryside that have covered bridges, historical markers and things unique to this part of the USA. There are route options that contain all paved or all gravel surfaces. There are routes that have different combinations to adapt to any sort or level of rider adventure-agenda.
Remember to go to ridewithgps.com and search for “Montezuma” routes to see them all. Go ahead and print out and/or download the ones that look interesting to you. Use them all year.
… SO, WHY RIDE ON GRAVEL ROADS?
The farther from the main highways you go, the more remote it becomes. The best place to relax to the unusual is found by riding on the gravel roads.
Yes, you’ll ride a little slower … but so what. You won’t fall over. You’re on a rolling easychair… a magic carpet.
The quiet (except for resident bird chatter, a passing train or maybe a tractor) with the added aroma of the fresh-smelling countryside make you want to peddle even slower to enjoy its rapture … we promise. The lack of traffic and its totally unnatural noise is really nice.
We’ll bring a few extra 20″ & 26″knobby tires to loan to those who don’t have them, but once there, wish they had. We’ll help you switch them out. You only need them on your back wheel.
It’s the lasting rider joy from these unpredictable, yet-to-be realized pleasures that will sow and keep watered the grass root foundation for a 2019 Labor Day Rendezvous.
